Chad

Purpose

This page describes the Chad application. It provides a simple guide to installing, setting-up and using Chad on the ON4KST chats.

What is Chad

Chad is a utility for the ON4KST chats that can be used to send unsolicited messages and advertising, ads, hence its name Chad.

Installation

Download Chad and do the installation yourself. All you have to do is place Chad.exe in its own directory together with the user ID file, Chad.key that you have to obtain from Bo, OZ2M. Without the license .key file Chad will not run.

Setup

Setting up is straight forward. First you have to go the Menu | Setup set the following parameters:

• Callsign on the chat (used for logging in).
• Password on the chat (used for logging in).
• Which chat to log in to.

You can run multiple incidents of Chads at the same time to log in to all the chats and start sending messages on all of them.

Secondly you must set up the various messages you want to send and how/when they should be sent. Do this from the Menu | Messages tab sheets.

There are three different kinds of Chad messages you can send:

• "Connect and disconnect" messages than can be up to seven lines each and up to 255 charcters.
  • The messages can be timed to the time of the day and/or be random texts.
• "Hello" messages monitor for callsigns chatting and when a selected callsign chats a message is sent.
• "Unsolicited" messages are sent at different intervals:
  • Ones - One time only. This counter is reset for each log-in.
  • Every - The message is send every ? minute.
  • Random - The message is send at random intervals.

Using Chad

When you have completed all the setting up you can start using Chad.

When you want to use Chad just double click Chad.exe and it will automatically connect to the relevant chat.

Chad is not a chatting program in itself so you have to have your normal chat program open as well, i.e. a web browser or telnet client. This is not a problem as you can use the same identity (callsign and password) to log in to the chat(s) as many times at the same time as you like.

If you want to changes the messages you can also do this after the initial setting up and the changes will take effect immediately.
